Career Magic: Shape Shifting Your Future

This was an interview with Corporate Recruiter Rebecca Le Vine, who offered 3 major steps you can take to shape shift your future.  Here are the steps:

1.  CLARITY:  Get really clear on where you are today. Get real. It amazes me when I hear clients say they got laid off and knew it was coming, but didn't really believe it until it hit. It's important to be clear on where you are today.

2.  WHAT DO YOU WANT. Rebecca suggested we create a Passion List and rather than focus on what we don't want, we should focus on the Possibilities!  This is important because when you look down, you go down. When you look up, you reach new heights.  We truly do get the very thing we are focusing on.  She then said to decide what you want from a career, and what do you want to give in exchange.  Again, it is important to focus on the Possibilities and staying open in order to create a shift.  The past does not equal the future unless you allow it to.

3.  TAKE ACTION.  Everyday do something that takes you closer to having the career you want and creating a future you want to live in, one filled with passion.  These action steps can be as small as journaling about the new life you are creating for yourself. This activity helps you to stay focused on the possibilities.

Some of the things I suggested for those looking for a new job or career were:

1.  Update Your Resume. Once you've made your passion list, decided what you really want from a career and what you want to give in exchange, update your resume to reflect these changes.  This will get you excited about looking for what you really want, rather than what you are use to having.  That excitement will raise your energy and take you out of being "needy" and shift you into a place of "attraction."

2.  Get Connected.  Everyone who is about anything today is connected through social media.  Get on LinkedIn, the network for business people.  The average income of LinkedIn networkers is $102K. This is the place to post your resume and find jobs.

3.  Get Active.  Lean how to network. Because there are so many people looking for your job today, it is important to get active and starting meeting people. Today more than ever, it is about who you know that will get you in the door faster.  Have some business cards made on VistPrint.com for free and pass them out.

If you follow these few tips, you will be far ahead of the game, and you will find that because you are being real and opening up to your passion, you will begin to attract people and resources to you that will support you in shape shifting your future.
